Hair bows

Tonight, I tried out making hair bows to match a shirt K* is wearing to school tomorrow.  I bought several shirts from one of the gymboree spring collections this year that has tulips and want ribbon hair bows to match.  I remember seeing someone pin this way of making bows on pinterest, but I can't seem to find it now and I didn't take pics of the step by step process, but hopefully these pics will give you an idea of how I made them.  I wasn't sure what would look better, on the blue cutting mat or my bed, so you get both.
The ribbon is from Jo Ann's, already had it in my stash yay!  It's 7/8" SHKPINK 5.  The hair bows are about 3 1/4" wide.  Gluing the bows onto the metal clip is the hardest part IMO.  I'm pretty happy with how they turned out for a first try.  Okay, I did try to make an orange pair in the Fall to match some things I sewed for K* but I hated how they looked, so I'm not counting them.

I came across a different way on pinterest that I might try but it looks more involved, there are a lot of ways to do it if you search for hair bow tutorials.

Flower Clips

I finally got around to making these two flower hair clips.  I've had the flowers for a few months and finally figured out that I can use buttons for the decorative center.  I had been searching for cute centers to no avail in the jewelery making section, and then if dawned on me to use buttons. Duh!  Basically, I cut the flower off the stem, took it all apart and then glued it back together with my glue gun using a circle of felt and a clip as the back base.  I made these two flowers to go with a few specific shirts, one peach shirt and about four yellow shirts that I own.  One day at Hobby Lobby I happened to pass the peach flower and knew I had to make it into a flower clip.  Each stem has two usable flowers, so I can make two more in the future.  I have a handful of other flowers (black, cream, berry, purple, pink, turquoise) that my cousin made that get regular use.

Hair Bow Holder

My sister made this super cute hair bow holder for K* for Christmas. She painted an 18" x 24" canvas pink to match her room and then stapled various widths of pink, green and white ribbon to the back. We sooo needed something to help organize K*'s bows and this is perfect hanging up behind the door in her bedroom. You can also slide headbands onto it, but I think we'll stick to just bows for now. K* LOVES it! It's pretty easy for her to get the ones she wants and put them back. My sister made all the bows on the lefthand side too! While attaching all the bows last week, I realized several pinks ones were misplaced during Christmas vacation. Wonder what pocket, corner or spot I'll eventually find them in.........
