Josephine in Coral Little Blomster

Pattern: Josephine by Violette Field Threads
Size 9/10
Fabric: Mormor Little Blomster in Coral by Lotta Jansdotter

I loved sewing this Josephine blouse as part of a Violette Field Threads sew-a-long.
Until, I got to the buttons.  They were a little frustrating.....  Lots of layers to sew a button hole through, and small buttons/button holes at that, but let's just leave it at that since I'm mostly over it now.  It was a learning experience and I'd make the pattern again. I really like the collar and pin tucks and sleeves (K* isn't sure about the flutteriness of the sleeves yet).Maybe a Josephine dress in the future.

I've never done a sew-a-long on the actual sew-a-long days, it was nice to have the pattern broken up into daily tasks.

My sweet K* wore this on the first day back to school and looked so cute.

Summer Wreath

Saw a tutorial for a wreath from the how to mom for the 15 minute, 15 dollar wreath on pinterest and was inspired to make a summer wreath for my pantry door.

All supplies for the wreath are from Hobby Lobby, except for the ribbon which is from Michael's.

One of those projects that actually turned out how I imagined it!
Had fun making it with my sweet K* while brother and dad were gone.

Adding the yellow flowers made mine more than $15, but I just love them. I cut the yellow flowers off the flower bunch and added them to the wreath individually.  I didn't add in any of the excess greenery on mine after going around the grapevine wreath once.  The ribbon is 1 1/2 inches, so I made a double bow to give it more width.

Makes me smile every time I walk by the pantry door.

Crown Bolt Decorative Garage Hardware

Before

When picking everything out to build our house, DH wanted decorative garage door hardware but I wasn't sure about it, so we didn't get any.  After almost two years and looking around at houses with decorative garage door hardware, I decided I might like some on our garage doors.  So I bought two kits at Home Depot for DH for his birthday.  He installed the hardware one Saturday morning and I think the verdict is that we love it! Good thing 'cause the holes to install the hardware are permanent.

After

There are a couple of kits to choose from, but I really like the ring pulls.

Mad Hatter Hat

In March I needed a hat for a mad hatter party.

Normally, I don't get into themes for things, I just show up "regular/boring", but a friend talked me into being "fun". So we went mad hatter hat shopping one morning.

I found this at Party City in the 30, 40, 50, etc aisle.  I took off the circle with the number in it and attached a flower pin from the $1 bin at Jo Ann's.  I also added a grouping of fine black feathers to the back for some fullness, also from Jo Ann's. I love the colors, especially the purple and am glad I decided to be more fun!

Owl Valentine Box

Valentine owl box for K*'s class party today.

We had fun turning a corn flakes box into something so cute!

I showed her the idea, she picked the paper from her alphabet soup girl paper pad and then we got to work. First we wrapped the box in brown craft paper like wrapping paper form target.  Other than the eyes & beak, we only needed two 12 x 12 pieces of paper.

We did wait until the night before {and there were several other things going on} so I cut things out according to her instructions and she taped them on with double sided sticky tape. Pretty easy {scallops, circles & hearts} for all that cuteness.  She loves it.

Original owl idea from Simple As That.
Inspiration for our version mainly from here and here.

AHOY MATEY be my valentine

Valentines inspired by the ones found on Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke.

Pink and blue chevron paper from Hobby Lobby.  Blue and red anchors cut with my silhouette.  AHOY MATEY is maiandra and be my valentine is scrap calligraphy.  K* is still deciding if she wants to staple them to the bags or tie them on with string.  Simple valentines that K* feels like she's making because she gets to glue the anchors on.

Love & Hearts Wooden Blocks

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

{One of my favorite holidays}

After packing these from a house to an apartment (storage) to a house (and over a year later),
 I've finally finished them!

Wooden conversation hearts from the wooden connection (Utah, thanks sis).  Blocks from a friend and LOVE from Michaels.  Paper is Je t'adore by making memories (I've had it in my stash for awhile).

On their way in the mail are some more conversation hearts, maybe I'll get them done for next year ;)

Halloween Costumes 2014: Little Red Riding Hood & the Big, Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding Hood & the Big Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding Hood was sick with a confirmed case of the flu the week of Halloween, so sewing the costume was more last minute than planned due to extra snuggles and not being sure if she'd even need it.  But things were looking up on Halloween and she went to school.  Friends and a cousin even joined her for trick or treating that evening.

McCall's 6187
Adjustments to the bodice: made the bodice 5/6 width but 7/8 length.  Added at least 3 inches to the height of the bodice front for modesty/coverage (who wrote this pattern for little girls and what were they thinking on the lowness of the neckline?!?) and added an inch or so to the back bodice neckline.  Skirt adjustments:  I added fullness and length to both the skirt and the apron.
Sleeve adjustments: I lengthened the sleeves to be around just above her elbows.
The hood is lined.

Main fabrics are Riley Blake:

The lace, ribbon, rick rac, white fabric and red fabric for the lining are from Jo Ann's
