Crayon Monogram & Pencil Roll

Keeping with the letter S for another teacher crayon monogram gift this school year.
Lettering is black vinyl in the font Leftovers.  The frame is from Walmart.  I used hot glue again this time.

And, another colored pencil roll, haven't made one of these since the Fall I think.
Fabric from Hobby Lobby and  24 crayola colored pencils.

Colored Pencil Rolls x 8

Well, I've made EIGHT colored pencil rolls already this month.  I taught a group of ladies how to make them earlier in the month, so I needed some examples in various stages.  I then decided to donate the other two that could be made from the fabric not needed for the samples to a silent auction at church for the youth to raise money for a trip to Nauvoo next summer.  Well, that then lead to being asked if I could make five more pencil rolls. I finished them all up on Wednesday.  So, I think I'm all pencil rolled out for awhile.  I do have one extra from all that pencil roll sewing that will be nice to have on hand as a gift should I need a last minute one.

Made: 2 robots, 1 dino, 3 black floral and 2 pink floral.

Robot and Dino and coordinating solids fabrics from Jo Ann's.
Black floral and solid pinks from Hobbly Lobby.
Pink florals and solid blue from Jo Ann's. I should have taken another picture of the pink floral one, the outside is a darker pink with larger flowers, all the floral prints are from the Heidi Grace collection.  Very cute.

Ribbons from stash.  And if you can believe it, I ran out of light pink thread with 3 1/2 lines left to stitch for the pencil channels/pockets.  Luckily, it was on a black floral one and I was using black for the bobbin thread and was able to use my light pink bobbin for the top thread.  I also used up the last 40" of skinny light pink ribbon. Time to stock up, not like we ever use pink around here....

Pencil Roll & PJs

One of K*'s little friends had a birthday party on Friday afternoon, so I whipped these up during the week as a gift.
A pencil roll using one of my favorite fabric lines for cute girly stuff, Hoo's in the Forest by Riley Blake. I timed myself this time when making the pencil roll, from getting the fabric out and cutting it to finishing stitching the last pencil "pocket" line, just over an hour.
And a pair of pjs using the Oliver + S bedtime story top and New Look 6746 for the bottoms.  The flower fabric is Tea Party by David Walker for Free Spirit.  I already had the pink polka dots in my stash, I think I bought it at Jo Ann's last year in the nursery print area.   I did a snap on the inside of the pj top and a cute heart button on the outside, rather than the ties called for in the pattern.
I also made a pair of pjs for K* out of the exact same fabrics. And not to pat myself on the back or anything, but as I was making the two pairs of pjs, no unpicking needed until the very end on a button hole that just didn't turn out right due to some fabric bulk.  It felt really good to not mess up.  I'll post K*'s pjs later as I also made her another pair with a tee shirt I need to finish deciding on an applique for.

Pencil Rolls

I decided to make pencil rolls for some of my neices and nephew this Christmas.  It's a fairly easy sewing project to finish several in a couple of hours.

I had to get this one in the mail, so I finished it up first.

Fabrics are: Amelia for the two pink and purple florals & stripes w/turquoise by Me & My Sister Designs.  Hoo's in the forest by Riley Blake (made with the leftover pieces from making K* one for her birthday).  And Boys at work multi stripe by Northcott with Beatle Boy.

Pencil Roll

This is a pencil roll I made last week for my daughter as a birthday present.  There are a lot of ideas online, I mainly used directions from a book, Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson, which I borrowed from a friend.  The fabric is Hoo's in the Forest by Riley Blake.  I LOVE this fabric.  I have a whole stash of it waiting for me to make projects out of.  The pencil roll is 9" by 20".  There are 27 pencil pockets and the pockets are about 3/4 of an inch. The book had the pencil pockets at an inch and a longer length, but I didn't want mine to be so long.  The pencil pockets stitching is one continuos line of stitching; down, across 3/4", up, across 3/4", down, repeat. If that makes sense.  It really went together quickly.  Other than picking out the fabirc and the pencil pocket stitching, it took about 20 minutes.  I had a few issues getting my pocket lines straight when I first started, so I lost track of how long that part took. But once I got going, it was pretty quick too.
