Love & Hearts Wooden Blocks

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

{One of my favorite holidays}

After packing these from a house to an apartment (storage) to a house (and over a year later),
 I've finally finished them!

Wooden conversation hearts from the wooden connection (Utah, thanks sis).  Blocks from a friend and LOVE from Michaels.  Paper is Je t'adore by making memories (I've had it in my stash for awhile).

On their way in the mail are some more conversation hearts, maybe I'll get them done for next year ;)

Olliblocks

Testing out posting by email tonight.  Here it goes.

Olliblocks from December.  This was one of our Relief Society craft night projects.  I made several sets to give as gifts to nieces and nephews.  Aren’t they so cute!
Girls, boys, careers and superheroes.
Modpodge to adhere the prints, two coats of wood glue to coat and seal them for playing with.

Halloween Decor 2012

This is the extent of our Halloween decor this year.  These two things.
And the occasional plastic spider ring.

There is a bin fairly accessible in the storage unit marked Fall/Halloween, but I've decided for now to leave it alone.  Maybe it's 'cause I'd have to pack it up to the third floor and back down and then over to the storage unit again.  Or maybe because it's nice to be simple once in awhile.   I know I'll be getting into the Christmas bin though.   It will be interesting to dejunk after not using so many of our things for so many months when we unpack in the Spring. I am missing some of my recipes & recipe books that were packed up.  You have to understand that when we first started packing up our house we hadn't decided to build a house for sure and thought we might be into a house in just two or three months.  So I am very grateful for all the things I do have access to.  Having access to my sewing stuff is a big one.  And friends who let me borrow mod podge so I don't have to buy another jar of it.

Right now I am weeding vinyl to make about 15 of the framed happy haunting craft for a craft group tonight.  We are also going to sew hooded towels.  It's fun to be creative with friends.

Easter Treats & Crafts

Rice krispie treat eggs with m&m's in the middle and chow mein & chocolate bird nests with chocolate eggs.
S* was particularly excited when he realized that when he was done helping me, he would get to lick all the chocolate off off his hands.  I wanted to make some with butterscotch chips too, but I didn't have any on hand.  I mixed 12 oz of noodles with 12 oz of melted chocolate, using about 1/4 cup per nest.
After making treats, we colored Easter eggs.
K* wasn't feeling her best, so she made two rice krispie treat eggs and two bird nests.

Thread wrapped eggs.
Yes, I have the patience/personality where I can sit and wrap thread around and around Styrofoam eggs.  I'm not sure what that says about me.  I only made three, the plan was for more (green & blue too) but I decided to make a tee pee for the kids instead.  It kind of takes some time to wrap all that the thread around.  And it actually takes quite a bit of thread.  I used  about 2 1/2 things of pearl cotton thread on the "golden" egg.  The pruple one used 1+ and the pink egg not quite 1.  Each thing of thread has about 27 yards.  Maybe I'll get the rest done for next year.
Idea from Martha Stewart, I saw it last year and just didn't get to it.

"Chocolate bunnies" on wooden blocks.
Another idea I saw last year and didn't get to until this year.
The bunnies are brown vinyl.

There were plenty of other Easter and other Spring crafts I didn't get too, maybe next year....
Some of them I pinned here.

Happy Birthday {to me}

I'm currently reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. One of the thoughts/quotes I like from it is, "The days are long, but the years are short".

Today I am 33
I graduated from high school almost 15 years ago
I've been married for 13 1/2 years
I've lived in Kingwood, TX for 12 1/2 years, my house for 11 1/2 years
S* is 10 1/2, K* is 6
They are halfway through 4th grade and Kindergarten
S* won't be living at home in another 10 years, K* will be learning to drive

I finished these wooden birthday blocks and presents Thursday night.

They are from the wood connection in Utah. My mom sent them to me in September and I tried to get them done before K*'s birthday, but getting some other things done before having my wisdom teeth didn't leave me the time to.
I started out painting the blocks multi colors like this one here on the happy scraps blog but I just couldn't get the colors right for what I was envisioning. When I pulled it all out earlier this week, I decided to paint all the blocks white.  I'm so glad I did.  I picked out the paper in September, which was nice to already have that decided. The paper is: a walk in the park by echo park, it's such a fun paper collection. The font I used for happy birthday is pea missy. I also used some glitter on the three presents and am still deciding if I like it. Not sure I can change it if I don't though.

It felt a little silly to be finishing a birthday decoration for my own birthday, but when I wasn't able to finish it before K*'s birthday I promised myself I'd get it done for mine just so I could have it ready to use for everyone's birthdays.

Merry & Bright block

I made four of these Merry & Bright blocks at our church craft night in the beginning of November.  Two red (alizarin crimson) and two green (forest green).  I gave the green away already before snapping a shot of one.  It was hard to decide what color to keep for myself.   I also can't decided if I want to sand the edges of mine, but I think I will then I won't care if it gets dings in it in the future.
Used Silhouette to design and cut it out of white vinyl.  The font is century.  The tree is a silhouette shape artsy_christmas_tree_pyramid box_C01085_19210. It measures 5 1/4"h by 6"w.
I was excited we made this as a craft at our craft night, because I had already started designing it to make my own, but by making it at the craft night, I actually didn't have to cut out the wood or the vinyl, pick out paint colors, or run around buying anything, the sweet friend in charge did all the hard work.
I originally saw the idea at The House of Smith Designs.

LUCK scrabble blocks

Made these LUCK scrabble blocks inspired by these ones here. I used a 1x1x4 to cut out blocks roughly 3 3/8" square (don't look too closely). Cut LUCK and the numbers out with the lyrical letters cricut cartridge. LUCK is 2 1/2 inches (I think) and the numbers are 1 inch in black vinyl. I haven't coated mine with spray or modpodge yet, still deciding. A quick, easy project; especially if you already have scrap wood and/or vinyl laying around needing to be used. Would be fun to make with scrapbook paper too. LOVE would be fun too.
