Sleepover PJ Pants in Sam I Am

 Pajama pants for my Sam.

He LOVES them.  Who wouldn’t love something made with fabric that said your name over and over and over though!
He goes through all the variations: Sam I Am! {loud & proud}, I Am Sam, Am I Sam? and on and on.

Fabric: Green Eggs & Ham Red Sam I Am by Dr. Seuss Enterprises for Robert Kaufman
I saw this fabric online and was happy to see it in person while in Utah visiting family {and fabric stores J}
Pattern: Oliver + S Sleepover pajama pants.  Size 12.
I really like the leg proportions {not too balloon-y} on the Oliver + S pajama patterns compared to some of the big name patterns I’ve used for him in the past.
Sam I Am font: Minya Nouvelle, cut out with my silhouette in vinyl to use as a stencil
Fabric paint: Tulip Soft in Red {Velveteen}.
I followed the directions using an iron to make the letters velveteen textured like and didn’t like how it started to make them curl, so I’d probably not do that step in the future.
White shirt from Target.

Christmas PJs in Nordic Holiday

For K*s Christmas Eve/Christmas morning pajamas, I made a sweet nightgown using Stitch ‘n Save by McCall’s M6633 (out of print now) view B in a size 6, hoping it would fit my growing girl for the rest of the winter as it was the largest size for the pattern.  The fabric is Nordic Holiday by Michael Miller.  Isn’t it just so fun and bright for the holiday season!  Ilove the reindeer, tress & little birds.
K* felt like the neckline was too low or gaped open or something and was always wearing a t shirt under it, so I cut a t shirt up one day and sewed just the littlest bit of the neck binding & a bit of the shirt onto the nightgown to make her more comfortable.
I did make S* some pj bottoms using the red & blue racer stripes from Sarah Jane’s children at play line, but no pics to show of them.

Lab Work Sleepover Pants

During Christmas vacation, K* and I picked out some fabric at JoAnn's for her to sew S* some pajama pants.  On Saturday, January 19th, she got started by cutting out the pattern pieces and fabric.  We then spent a couple of hours taking our time sewing the pants before it was time to call it a day.  We used the sleepover pajama pants pattern from Oliver + S.  So this was not a "beginner" pair of pajama pants in that the bottom cuffs and waist band were out of a contrasting material.
Monday, January 21st, there was no school, so while S* was in their room playing we finished the pajama pants up and made a tee shirt to go with them.  Well, we didn't actually make a tee shirt, we found an orange one at target and stitched a rectangle of fabric to the front.  I think the fabric is called Lab Work and has fun lab and robotic things on it.  S* loves science.

I'm pretty proud of K*. She really did the bulk of the work. She cut the pattern and fabric out herself. I would iron one pant leg to show her what to do and she'd do the other pant leg. She guided the fabric through the sewing machine 90% of the time. I helped with the peddle depending on what part she was sewing. I did do the top stitching on the orange contrast cuffs and to make the elastic casing for the waist. She worked hard and did her best and they turned out fantastic for a first real sewing project. And I think her brother felt pretty special that she made them for him

Summer PJs

Summer PJs

Oliver + S Bedtime Story PJ top modified to have short sleeves, and a snap on the inside and a cute heart button on the outside instead of the ties called for in the pattern.
New Look 6746 for the PJ bottoms.
The flower fabric is Tea Party by David Walker for Free Spirit. I already had the pink polka dots in my stash, I think I bought it at Jo Ann's last year in the nursery print area.
This pair is just like the pair I made for K*'s friend, mentioned in a previous post, only a size bigger.  The fabric colors in the photo in the previous post are better.

I made these PJ pants at the same time I made the above PJs over a week and a half ago, but I just really couldn't decide on a shape for the tee shirt applique.  I finally decided to just make it super simple and picked between stars or an elephant.  Then I went with the stars due to the straight lines being easier.  Maybe I'll be more adventurous/creative on a future applique.   I let K* help decide where to place the stars yesterday evening so she could finally wear them to bed.  She's been wearing the other pair since I finished them.
New Look 6746 for the PJ bottoms.
The striped fabric is Grow with Me for Moda and the purple fabric with tiny white dots I bought at Joann's to match the purple in the stripes.

Pencil Roll & PJs

One of K*'s little friends had a birthday party on Friday afternoon, so I whipped these up during the week as a gift.
A pencil roll using one of my favorite fabric lines for cute girly stuff, Hoo's in the Forest by Riley Blake. I timed myself this time when making the pencil roll, from getting the fabric out and cutting it to finishing stitching the last pencil "pocket" line, just over an hour.
And a pair of pjs using the Oliver + S bedtime story top and New Look 6746 for the bottoms.  The flower fabric is Tea Party by David Walker for Free Spirit.  I already had the pink polka dots in my stash, I think I bought it at Jo Ann's last year in the nursery print area.   I did a snap on the inside of the pj top and a cute heart button on the outside, rather than the ties called for in the pattern.
I also made a pair of pjs for K* out of the exact same fabrics. And not to pat myself on the back or anything, but as I was making the two pairs of pjs, no unpicking needed until the very end on a button hole that just didn't turn out right due to some fabric bulk.  It felt really good to not mess up.  I'll post K*'s pjs later as I also made her another pair with a tee shirt I need to finish deciding on an applique for.

Paper Airplane PJs

I made these paper airplane pjs for S* for Valentine's Day.  I actually made the pj pants in December when I was sewing their Christmas pjs, but decided to wait to give them to him since I wouldn't be able to sew K* something also.  The fabric for the pants is so fun, I love it, showing how to fold paper hats and paper airplanes.  I think I have enough fabric leftover to make a pillowcase too!
I totally copied the idea from Probably Actually.  As soon as I saw her blog post, I knew I had to make a pair for S*.

Fabric is Children at Play Making Paper Hats by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller fabrics.  The yellow is Farm Fresh Yellow Plaid by October Afternoon for Riley Blake fabrics.  The pj pant pattern is Bedtime Story by Olive + S.  The pants are long for him, buts that's okay 'cause they'll fit longer.  I drew the paper airplane applique based on a flickr photo mentioned in probably actually's post.  I made it yesterday afternoon really quick before the kids came home from school.

And although I didn't specifically sew something for Valentine's Day for K*, as if at least half of everything I sew isn't for her.....  I did get her this adorable umbrella.  She's been wanting one for a few years, and when I saw this one and I decided it was the one. {I may have also bought some of the super cute clothes that this umbrella goes with and it's silly how excited I am for her to wear them soon}

Pajamas for Christmas

Put the finishing touches on these pajamas tonight (hence the not so great lighting for pictures).  I've never made pajamas for the kids before.   I hope they aren't way too big when they open them up tomorrow night(Christmas Eve) as their new Christmas pajamas.
Pajama pants are very easy to make.  I seriously don't know why I haven't ever made any before.  The kimono top was fairly easy too.  And the button up top wasn't too hard, but it required taking my time and patience.  The flannel for K*'s pajamas is so soft.  And I'm loving the stripes for S*'s.  I have the same stripe pattern in red & blue for another pair of pj pants.

Fabric: Ruby by Bonnie & Camille; Cream Quirky flannel and Sherbet dot for trim
Pattern: Bedtime story by Oliver + S
I used snaps with a decorative bow instead of the ties called for in the pattern after reading some ideas online

Fabric: Green Racer Stripe from Children at Play by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller
Pattern: New Look 6746
Got the idea after looking at Sarah Jane's blog
