AHOY MATEY be my valentine

Valentines inspired by the ones found on Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke.

Pink and blue chevron paper from Hobby Lobby.  Blue and red anchors cut with my silhouette.  AHOY MATEY is maiandra and be my valentine is scrap calligraphy.  K* is still deciding if she wants to staple them to the bags or tie them on with string.  Simple valentines that K* feels like she's making because she gets to glue the anchors on.

Love & Hearts Wooden Blocks

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

{One of my favorite holidays}

After packing these from a house to an apartment (storage) to a house (and over a year later),
 I've finally finished them!

Wooden conversation hearts from the wooden connection (Utah, thanks sis).  Blocks from a friend and LOVE from Michaels.  Paper is Je t'adore by making memories (I've had it in my stash for awhile).

On their way in the mail are some more conversation hearts, maybe I'll get them done for next year ;)

Halloween Costumes 2014: Little Red Riding Hood & the Big, Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding Hood & the Big Bad Wolf

Little Red Riding Hood was sick with a confirmed case of the flu the week of Halloween, so sewing the costume was more last minute than planned due to extra snuggles and not being sure if she'd even need it.  But things were looking up on Halloween and she went to school.  Friends and a cousin even joined her for trick or treating that evening.

McCall's 6187
Adjustments to the bodice: made the bodice 5/6 width but 7/8 length.  Added at least 3 inches to the height of the bodice front for modesty/coverage (who wrote this pattern for little girls and what were they thinking on the lowness of the neckline?!?) and added an inch or so to the back bodice neckline.  Skirt adjustments:  I added fullness and length to both the skirt and the apron.
Sleeve adjustments: I lengthened the sleeves to be around just above her elbows.
The hood is lined.

Main fabrics are Riley Blake:

Country Girls by Tasha Noel C3645 & C3642

The lace, ribbon, rick rac, white fabric and red fabric for the lining are from Jo Ann's

Brown hoodie ordered online, felt pieces glued on.  Easy.

Fall Activity Day Crafts

After General Conference, we had the girls each prepare to briefly share about their favorite thought or talk from Conference.  We ate treats and munched on popcorn to help them feel more comfortable and then decorated this quote from President Uchtdorf.

In November, we made thankful trees.  Each day until Thanksgiving they were to write on a leaf something they are thankful for and glue it on the tree.
We also did this in our family and my kids loved it!

I used my silhouette to cut out all the flowers, leaves, and tree trunks.
The tree trunks are two trunks slid together and held with tape; one trunk with a small slit a couple of inches long from the top and the other trunk has a slit starting a couple of inches down from the top and goes to the bottom {that probably doesn't really make sense typed out, does it}.

Other activities we've had over the last few months:

Physical fitness activity with several stations of physical things to do as well as a discussion about being healthy and safe when exercising, stretching, cooling down, etc...
Examples of some stations: dribbling basketball, shooting basketball, jumping jacks, jumping rope, sit ups, push ups, planks, dribbling a soccer ball around a cone and back, lunges, moguls/ jumping the line, etc...

The other leader and her husband built frames and stapled chicken wire to them so that the girls could paint them.  We gave them a few small clothes pins to hang pictures & notes on them.  Sure wish I would have thought to take a picture.

Our Christmas activity was watching the movie Christmas Oranges (the movie showing the illustrations from the book) and bringing treats to share and eat while watching it.  After that we had an ornament exchange {under $3) and read right/left stories to pass the ornaments around the circle.

Happy Ever After Fabric Doll

For my sweet niece’s first birthday, I used the Riley Blake Happy Ever After Princess Pocket Pillow Panel to make a little doll dress up quiet book.
I keep wondering if my little K* isn’t too old for one also, it’s so cute!  I bought a few panels, there’s a brunette also, and a couple of the prints so there will be a few more of these in the future.

All the fabrics are from the Riley Blake Happy Ever After line except for the pink flannel I used on the back of the dresses, it’s from HobbyLobby.

Sorry for the badly lit pictures, I had just finished sewing on the button (I waited ‘til the last minute for that little detail for some reason) and we were headed out the door to the party.

Grrrr….  That little pucker in the middle bugs me, but I’m trying to get over it.

A super cute version can be found at On The Mend.
